Fun Run 2003
The 2nd fun run on Friday 16th May 2003 looked like it would be a complete
washout. There was torrential rain all Thursday night and during the day
Friday. Luckily, it stopped just 30 minutes before the race was due to start,
and despite this we still had 290 runners, almost 60 more than for the
first event. It did make track conditions difficult, especially for our
disabled entrants, but there were no injuries and everyone completed the
course.
Again, thanks to all those who helped organise the run and provided refreshments
and entertainment for the spectators. A special thanks to the marshals who did
a tremendous job in difficult conditions and to Charlotte Stubbs (oldest
resident of Dyke) who was asked to start this years fun run
Thanks also go to our sponsors (The Wishing Well Dyke, Chestnut Communications
Ltd), without whom we would have much less profit, and the landowners for
allowing us to use the paths across their land and cutting the grass along the
course etc to make the race more enjoyable.
