Fun Run 2002
The first fun run on Friday 17th May 2002 was a very nervous time for all those who had helped with the organisation.
We knew we had enough pre-booked entrants to cover our costs, but would we show a profit at the end of the evening?
By 6.30pm, new entrants were arriving as fast as they could be booked in, and we ended up with 234 runners aged from three to 76 years old (some families had 3 generations taking part in the race). The weather was good to us, and most of the village were either helping or taking part - sometimes complete with dogs (dogs get free entry!). Organisers asked local farmer Philip Ash to start the race.
We made a nice profit from the evening, which helped pay for the village's Golden Jubilee celebrations. As the fun run was so well supported, it was decided to make the run an annual event, so a small amount of cash was retained to bankroll the next year.
